The Election Supervisor has fined the Hoffa-Hall Campaign for cheating in the local union election in New England Local 251.
Candidates for the Hoffa-backed “251 Strong” slate illegally obtained a membership list from the Hoffa Campaign. They used it to match members’ phone numbers and call them about the local election.
The scheme by Hoffa-Hall and Local 251 violated both IBT election rules and federal law.
In the last Local 251 election, Hoffa-Hall running mate Sean O’Brien threatened to “punish” any members who opposed Joe Bairos, the head of the 251 Strong ticket.
O’Brien was suspended from the Teamsters for two weeks for those illegal threats. But Hoffa-Hall continue to undermine the democratic process in Local 251.
The Hoffa-Hall campaign was fined $6,000 and must deposit $40,000 into an escrow account to cover further damages if the violations result in a tainted election. 251 Strong was fined $3,000.
Local 251 members are turning out the vote for both the 251 United Action slate and Fred Zuckerman Teamsters United.
