New York Teamsters Face Pension Cuts

Another pension cut crisis under Hoffa-Hall. Thirty thousands Teamsters and retirees in New York State have been told their pensions will be cut by 20 percent or 31 percent.

The New York State Teamster Pension Fund will submit a proposal to the U.S. Treasury Department on August 25 to cut retiree pensions by 31 percent and to impose a 20 percent pension cut on working Teamsters.

Teamsters organized to defeat a similar pension cut plan in the Central States and are fighting to protect their pensions.

“Hoffa-Hall have abdicated their responsibility to protect Teamster pensions and left the job up to working Teamsters and retirees to take on this fight,” said Fred Zuckerman. “Their lack of leadership is a disgrace.”

“As General President, I will put the power of our International Union to work fighting to protect Teamster pensions and benefits,” Zuckerman said.
