Teamsters United Crushes Hoffa in Florida Race

Teamsters United VP candidate Kimberly Schultz cruised to victory in the first-ever election for local union officers in Florida Local 2011. Schultz crushed her Hoffa-backed opponent and won with a whopping 87 percent of the vote.

Local 2011 represents over 4,000 Teamsters who work for the Florida Department of Corrections.

The local has been under trusteeship for five years. Schultz led an effort to end the trusteeship and win the right for members to elect their local leaders.

The Hoffa Campaign handpicked a member to run for Local 2011 President. The paperwork nominating her to run was faxed in from Washington DC by Hoffa’s campaign coordinator Christy Bailey.

Schultz campaigned on a platform of fighting for higher wages, safe staffing and working conditions, and mobilizing members to build the union’s political clout, a key issue for public sector workers.

An early challenge will be fighting off a raid by a rival union, the PBA. “Members are uniting now to build a strong Local 2011. We’re going to vote for the same change in October by electing Fred Zuckerman and the Teamsters United Slate,” Schultz said.
